Accused Stalker Questioned: 'But Suppose I Might Be Madeleine?'
A woman charged with harassing Kate McCann apparently left her a voicemail message which asked: "what if I am Madeleine?"
The defendant, twenty-four, who a jury heard has repeatedly claimed she was the disappeared Madeleine McCann, and her co-defendant are facing charges charged with harassing Kate and Gerry McCann from June 2022 and February 2025.
On Monday, Leicester Crown Court learned communication data and information recovered from phones documented Ms Wandelt persistently demanding Madeleine's mother for a biological test during that period.
Madeleine's case in 2007 - when she was three years old during a vacation in Portugal - is considered the most publicized missing child cases and is still unresolved.
'I Don't Want Money'
A separate phone message, presented in court, captured Ms Wandelt saying: "I understand I'm heavy and plain like Madeleine was, but I feel what I know."
While a separate message of Ms Wandelt's monologues with Mrs McCann's answerphone expressed: "What if there is a slight possibility that I am she? What then? Is that not important for you?"
"I am not seeking money, I have a living here in Poland, I simply desire to understand," she added.
The tribunal was told that through electronic messages, text messages and calls, Ms Wandelt requested a biological test, sent childhood photos to her phone in a effort to demonstrate a resemblance to Mrs McCann's vanished daughter, and claimed to have "recollections" from a youth with the McCanns.
An intelligence analyst, a data specialist with the police force who gathered the information, told the court there "showed no any replies" from Mrs McCann.
Ms Wandelt furthermore communicated with close associates of the McCanns, based on the phone records.
On that date, the father responded to a communication from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, saying she had "the wrong phone."
That day Ms Wandelt recorded a recording on Mrs McCann's recording stating "I will continue and I intend to demonstrate my position."
The court was informed Mrs Spragg developed a association through digital means with Ms Wandelt preceding joining her on a appearance to the McCanns' residence in Leicestershire in December 2024.
Call logs revealed Mrs Spragg had reached out via communication app to Mrs McCann to express the news outlets had characterized Ms Wandelt as "a crazy person" but that she ought to be taken seriously in the time before the appearance to that location, that area, in December 2024.
The court was told correspondence between the two defendants, in that autumn, considering endeavoring to get Mrs McCann's genetic material from her bins or from silverware at a restaurant.
"We have to take action," the co-defendant advised Ms Wandelt.
On the evening of the trip to their home, Mrs Spragg dispatched a message which said: "We're currently sat outside the McCanns' home with our vehicle dark like private investigators. I desired to accomplish this with Peter Andrew I never thought I would be doing that with the McCanns."
The proceedings proceeds.
